Wednesday evening’s Annual General Meeting of the Sarnia Lambton Chamber of Commerce, held at the Lambton College Event Centre, was an opportunity to not only celebrate a substantial turnaround from a financial perspective but to “look forward” as the organization continues to refocus, with a renewed emphasis on member service and value.
Special guest speakers included Chief Joanne Rogers, a former Justice of the Peace who is now the first female leader of the Aamjiwnaang First Nation, and Lambton County Warden Bill Weber.
Among the highlights, in addition to seeing a new board of directors sworn in by Justice Deborah Austin, was the review of the Chamber’s finances—what can only be described as a remarkable turnaround from last year.
“We were able, thanks to a lot of hard work from everyone concerned, including great leadership at the board level, to eliminate a nearly $80,000 deficit and deliver a surplus of just over $32,000,” noted CEO Shirley de Silva.
As de Silva reported to those attending the AGM, the work will continue throughout 2017, with plans well underway to continue to align member needs with strategic initiatives being developed.
Among those is the integration of a new website, which incorporates business processes designed to bring even more value to the Chamber and its members.
