Canstruction Underway at Lambton Mall

It starts with one can. One can make a difference. CANstruction 2017 is scheduled for Saturday March 4th when 17 teams of eight members will build amazing structures of canned food in support of The Inn of The Good Shepherd. Teams from local industry and business, and schools have taken on the challenge to compete in this the 6th year of CANstruction. Build day begins with a Rally at 8:30 am in the Food Court of Lambton Mall, and structure building starts at 9 am. Teams in red CANstruction T shirts will build throughout the day til 5pm. The seventeen “works of art” depicting the theme this year of Canada 150, will be on display throughout the Lambton mall til Tuesday March 21st.

What might you see? Will there be a Canada Flag, the RCMP, beavers, and lots of red and white! Maybe Gord Downie!!??

On Sunday March 5th, local community judges will visit the Lambton Mall and determine, with strict rules and procedures, the winners of the following categories: Best Use of Labels, Best Meal, Structural Ingenuity, Rookie Team, Best use of Theme, Judge’s Favourite, Most Cans, and Junior Outstanding Structure. Awards will be presented to the teams at 1pm in the Food Court Lambton Mall.

People’s Choice winning structure is voted on by the public, by donating coin and funds to their favourite structure. At each structure is a secured voting station to deposit donations of money. Once totaled, the funds determine the Peoples Choice winner is announced on Tuesday March 21st.

Sarnia’s CANstruction event has been extremely successful in previous years, winning top nods from the International CANstruction organization, for funds raised and lbs of food collected. The Inn of The Good Shepherd requires approximately 42,000 lbs of food each month to fill the shelves of the food bank.

Executive Director of The Inn of The Good Shepherd Myles Vanni says, “we are so fortunate and blessed to have 17 teams take part in this our 6th annual event. The food collected will help the over 2000 people who use our food bank each month. The funds collected will assist our many programs and services. We invite the citizens of Sarnia Lambton, young and old, to join us at Lambton Mall and witness this awesome event.”
