Distracted Driving Blitz

On Tuesday June 6 and Wednesday, June 7, 2017, members of the Sarnia Police Service Traffic Unit, COPPS Unit, and Community Services will be dedicated to looking out for and enforcing the law against those that decide to use a hand held wireless communication device (cell phone) in their hand while driving. The fine, including victim surcharge, is $490.00 and is also worth three demerit points. There will be a zero tolerance policy for this offence. Unfortunately distracted driving continues to be an ongoing concern on our roadways. Education is very important but it does not seem to bring the message home to all drivers. Remember, if you are holding any cell phone or other electronic device in your hand while driving, even if you are stopped at a stop light, it is an offence. If you are required to take a call or make a call remember to pull over to the side of the road where it is safe to do so or into a parking lot and make the call or use a Bluetooth Tooth device to speak. If not, be prepared to be ticketed.
