‘loonies for lunches’ Food Drive To Help Sarnia Students

Sarnia McDonald’s Franchisees Colleen and Peter Buckley will help provide meals to community children through the 12th annual ‘Loonies for Lunches’ back-to-school food drive. All proceeds from the food drive will be donated to The Inn of the Good Shepherd, an organization committed to offering a helping hand to the working poor, unemployed and homeless. Past “Loonies for Lunches” campaigns have raised as much as $6,000 in a year. Blackburn Radio Inc. have partnered with McDonald’s in this great cause.

“Thanks to the support and generosity of the Sarnia community we’re able to help so many local children in need,” says Colleen Buckley, McDonald’s Franchisee in Sarnia. “We’re excited to begin this year’s ‘Loonies for Lunches’ campaign and raise as much money as possible for these deserving children.”

The Inn of The Good Shepherd Executive Director Myles Vanni, says “our community and McDonald’s continue to care about the children who may go without food. Loonies for Lunches is a vital fundraiser to keep the shelves full at the food bank at The Inn of The Good Shepherd. The numbers tell the story, over 800 children are provided with food monthly.”

  • For the duration of the campaign, August 28th - September 10th, local McDonald’s employees will be asking customers for $1 donation for the food drive. The funds raised will help The Inn of the Good Shepherd, who serves over 800 children per month, purchase items for school lunches.

  • The Inn of The Good Shepherd has introduced a Snack Pack program this year, providing Snack Packs of food for children during the summer months, through The Inn’s Mobile Market weekly visit to over 14 neighbourhoods. Currently the Snack Pack program visits eight locations. While most children receive food at area Breakfast programs during the school year, during the summer months, they no longer have this access to snacks.

  • The community can also make food donations in the provided bins located in the dining rooms of the Christina St., Exmouth St. and London Rd. Mc Donald’s locations.

  • Donations can also be placed on line through The Inn of the Good Shepherd’s website: www.theinnsarnia.ca. Click on the Donate button, and follow the Canada Helps link.
