On Sunday, January 21, 2018, at approximately 7:50 pm, members of the Sarnia Police Service and the Sarnia Fire department were dispatched to the 400 block of Nelson Street regarding a structure fire. Witnesses that were in the area had observed a male party running from the residence on Nelson Street and head to a residence in the 400 block of Lydia Street. There the suspect was observed throwing something into the residence and shortly thereafter the house became engulfed in flames. Thanks to the witnesses who continued to follow the suspect police were able to locate the 31 year old male suspect from Sarnia and arrest him on Durand Street. The suspect remains in Sarnia Police custody and is facing charges for two counts of arson and one count of break and enter. The suspect is to attend court for a bail hearing later today. Both homes received extensive damage as a result of the flames, smoke and water.
