Police Seeking Public Assistance

On February 12, 2018, at approximately 2:30 am, an officer observed a male party riding his bicycle without a head light in the area of Brock Street and Confederation Street in the City of Sarnia. The officer was able to stop the cyclist in the same area at a local variety store to speak to. As the officer continued to speak with the male it was observed that the suspect was nervous and unable to answer simple questions. The suspect verbally identified himself as “Trevor Sebring”. After much reluctance the suspect pulled out a piece of ID that did not match the name given verbally. At this time it was determined the suspect was actually Trevor Shawn Chaput, 29 years of age, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for breaching probation. The officer attempted to arrest Chaput but a struggle ensued. The officer was pushed over a parking block at which point the officer fell to the ground and Chaput was able to escape. During the encounter the officer was able to hold onto the suspects back pack which was left behind. A search of the back pack located various forms of drug paraphernalia along with a number of shot gun shells. In addition to the initial warrant, Chaput now has a second warrant and is wanted for: 1) Four counts of Breach of Probation 2) Possession of Ammunition Contrary to a Probation Order 3) Public Mischief 4) Resist a Peace Officer 5) Assault a Peace Officer If anyone has any information regarding the whereabouts of Chaput they are please asked to contact the Sarnia Police Service at 519-344-8861, extension 0, or Sarnia Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-2222-8477.
