Village of Point Edward Celebrates Canada Day 2018!

The Village of Point Edward will hold its 2018 Canada Day Celebration in Waterfront Park from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2018. This year, the Village celebrates its 140th Anniversary and the event will commemorate this milestone achievement as well. The celebration will be highlighted with a grand opening of Waterfront Park’s new splash pad, funded in part through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, delivered by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), along with the Point Edward Optimist Club, and the Village of Point Edward.
The Village is very appreciative of the support from various funders that have made this project possible.

“Congratulations to the Village of Point Edward on the expansion of Waterfront Park to include a new splash pad, pavilion, and change facility," said Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for FedDev Ontario. "The Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program is improving community spaces and increasing the enjoyment of the waterfront for residents of all ages in the Point Edward community.”
“The Village is very lucky to have this new facility in our Waterfront Park for many people to enjoy.” said Mayor Bev Hand, “We have been fortunate to be able to provide this attraction to residents, neighbours, and visitors, and we hope that bringing people into the Village to enjoy our Splash Pad will entice them to visit our shops and dine in our restaurants. This asset can be an economic driver for the Village of Point Edward. Happy Canada Day and Happy 140th Birthday to Point Edward.”
The festivities are scheduled to coincide with the weekly Moonlight Farmer’s Market, which will include many activities for all to enjoy. There will be a Ferris wheel, a super obstacle course slide, and a giant bouncy castle throughout the event, as well as face painting and henna art tattoos. Attendees will also enjoy live musical entertainment and greetings from various community partners, followed by food and refreshments in the evening.
The formal part of the event will start at 5:30 p.m. and include an announcement of the 2018 Maynard and Rene Walker Family Scholarship recipient. The Village will also take the opportunity to celebrate our partnership with Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation and acknowledge the funding received through our host agreement.
The event is free to everyone, so come down to Waterfront Park to see what the Village of Point Edward has to offer. Visit our shops, as well as the vendors, in the Farmer’s Market. We look forward to seeing you there!
