Lambton College to Encourage Weekly Smoke-Free Campus Days Prior to Introducing New Policy

SARNIA, April 2, 2019 – Lambton College will be promoting a series of voluntary smoke-free campus days prior to introducing a new smoking policy that prohibits smoking and vaping across all campuses. Before going entirely smoke-free, the College will be hosting voluntary Smoke-Free Campus Days every Wednesday leading up to the official May 1, 2019 date. The weekly smoke-free days are being held in conjunction with Lambton Public Health and Leave the Pack Behind, who will be available on campus to discuss smoking cessation and provide information on supportive programs and services. Many post-secondary institutions in Canada have made the decision to become 100 per cent smoke-free, with many more in the process of doing so in the coming year. Lambton’s efforts to become a smoke-free campus also falls in line with the newly launched Strategic Plan, which strongly supports the maintenance of a healthy workplace environment for students, staff, and visitors. Additionally, smoke-free campuses provide protection from second-hand smoke while reducing litter on our properties, and discourages the use of tobacco among youth.
