Two Sarnia Police Officers Assaulted

Updated: Dec 18, 2019

On December 14, 2019, officers were able locate a male who had been reported missing earlier and now located in the area of Lambton Mall Road. As officers attempted to interact with the male it was noted that he was agitated. As officers attempted to calm the man down he turned suddenly and punched one of the officers in the face knocking the officer momentarily unconscious. The second officer immediately attempted to gain control of the man. Fortunately, the officer that was struck was able to regain his senses and assisted in arresting the accused for the assault after a brief struggle. The next day, while the accused was in custody, officers were removing him from his cell to attend for prints and once the cell door was opened he charged and attacked one of the officers by striking him in the eye. Officers were able to regain control of the situation and place him back into the cell. Both officers are recovering and will be alright. The accused, Dillon Dallas Heywood, 25 years of age, of Sarnia, was held for a bail hearing and faces two counts of assaulting a peace officer and one count of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.
