Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bluewater Health has had up to 15 staff test positive for COVID-19 at any one time. During this period we have been able to safely manage our patients and reduce COVID presence in the hospital to the point that now there are zero COVID-positive patients in acute care in Lambton County.
On June 5, the province issued a directive whereby more than two positive cases of COVID within a 14-day period is to be considered an outbreak. Bluewater Health has just received confirmation that three Bluewater Health staff have tested positive. As they are related to one area, Lambton Public Health has formally declared Bluewater Health to be in the outbreak.
We are confident we are able to get this outbreak under control, as we have each time we have had COVID in our hospital. Not only has the source of the outbreak been removed, but impacted staff are all isolating at home. Over the next 48 hours, we will determine appropriate next steps to ensure continued care and safety of both our staff and patients.
At this time there are no operational changes to report.
