Fire Chief Departing

Fire Chief Arnold has accepted a promotional opportunity with the City of Cambridge, where he had previously served. His last day with the City will be October 21, 2020.

I would like to acknowledge the significant contributions that Brian brought to the City, Fire Service, and the Senior Management Team (SMT) during his tenure. Brian has made several progressive changes within the Fire Service including but not limited to developing a Master Fire Plan, modernizing the Establishing & Regulating By-law, implementing a strategic work plan, closing regulatory gaps in health and safety, as well as creating a Pandemic Plan.

Brian is well-regarded by his staff and colleagues and is well respected by his peers on the SMT. I wish to express my appreciation for his dedication to the City and Fire Service, and his contributions to the SMT.

“It has been my sincere honour to serve Council and the citizens of Sarnia. I am fortunate to have lead the dedicated professionals of Sarnia Fire. From rookie to Deputy, they have impressed and inspired me. Keep safe and continue to have each others’ backs.

It was also my privilege to work alongside CAO Chris Carter and the entire Senior Management Team. Chris has assembled a smart, talented and high functioning team. I cannot thank him enough for his leadership and support, as he gave me the opportunity to grow, learn and move the department forward. I wish you all well as you take Sarnia to the next level.”

Deputy Fire Chief VanGaver has accepted the role of Fire Chief, and we have every confidence that Chief VanGaver will continue the ambitious initiatives set out within the Fire Services and maintain the exemplary services of Sarnia Fire.
