On February 27, 2021, at approximately 10:10 PM, Sarnia Police Service dispatch had broadcast the description of a motor vehicle, initially received by Lambton OPP, believed to driven by an impaired driver heading into the City of Sarnia via Confederation Line.
Within a short matter of time a Sarnia Police Service officer, on general patrol, located the motor vehicle matching the description heading westbound on Confederation Street and observed the vehicle continue through a red light at the intersection of Finch Drive and Confederation Street. The officer was able to turn his vehicle around and stop the vehicle in question.
As the investigation continued the officer formed grounds to arrest the suspect for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
The accused was taken into custody and transported to the station where he was required to supply a sample of breath into an Intoxilyzer Instrument.
As a result of the testing it was determined that the readings indicated that the accused had over twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.
As a result of the investigation, the accused, Cody Joshua Boersma, 23 years of age, of Sarnia, has been charged with one count of impaired operation of a motor vehicle and one count of having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.
Mr. Boersma has also had his driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and his vehicle has been impounded for 7 days. His first court appearance will be on April 27, 2021, at 9:30 AM, at the Sarnia Lambton Court House located at 700 North Christina Street, Sarnia.
