Impaired Driver Arrested During Radar Enforcement


On March 9, 2021, at approximately 10:00 AM, a member of the Sarnia Police Service Traffic Unit was conducting radar enforcement in the area of Indian Road and Rosedale Avenue when a vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed.

The officer pulled the vehicle over and once stopped the driver exited the vehicle and began to walk away. The officer was able to yell out to the driver who finally returned to his vehicle to speak to the officer.

Upon interacting with the driver the officer formed grounds to arrest him for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

The accused was subsequently transported to the station to supply a sample a breath into an Intoxilyzer instrument before a qualified breath technician. Subsequent to the test the accused was determined to have over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood in his system.

The accused in this matter, Eric Garrett Mott, 51 years of age, faces the following charges:

1) Operation while impaired by alcohol

2) Operation with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus

3) Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code

Mr. Mott’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 45 days under the Vehicle Impoundment Program. His first appearance will be on April 20, 2021, at 9:30 AM, at the Sarnia Lambton Court House, 700 North Christina St, Sarnia.
