Impaired Drivers Continue to be of Concern

On May 28, 2020, at approximately 2:15 AM, officers from the Sarnia Police Service were dispatched to the area Canatara Park at Christina Street for a possible impaired driver.
The officer attended the area and located a vehicle on Lake Chipican Drive that was drifting to the far right of the lane and then make a sudden correction. The officer conducted a vehicle stop of the suspect vehicle.
As the officer began speaking to the driver and investigating the situation further a demand was made for the driver to supply a sample of breath into a road side screening device. The test indicated a fail and the driver was arrested. The accused was then transported to the station where testing continued on the Intoxilyzer by a qualified Breath Technician. This test again confirmed that the accused was over 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.
The accused, Riona Noxell, 19 years of age, of London, Ontario, has been charged with operation of a conveyance with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.
Within 24 hours, on May 29, 2020, at approximately 12:55 AM, two Sarnia Police officers were completing an investigation in the 800 block of St. Clair Parkway and were returning to their cruisers. While the officers were by their cruisers a vehicle began drifting towards them. The officers saw this happening and began to flash their flashlights at the driver and ultimately had to jump up against the police cruiser to avoid from being struck.
The officers were able to get back into their vehicles and catch up to the motor vehicle that caused the incident. A traffic stop was conducted and ultimately a road side alcohol screening device test was administered to the driver. Results indicated a fail and the accused was taken into custody and transported back to the Sarnia Police Station. There a qualified Breath Technician conducted testing on an Intoxilyzer which indicated the suspect was over twice the legal limit of 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood.
Jack Thomas Johnston, 21 years of age, of Sarnia, was charged with operation of a conveyance with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.
