Lambton College Research Recognized with National Award for Fifth Straight Year

SARNIA, May 19, 2020 – Research & Innovation at Lambton College continues to shine on the national stage.
On Tuesday, May 19, the College was announced as the recipient of a national award on behalf of Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan), the organization that represents publicly supported colleges, institutes, cegeps and polytechnics in Canada and internationally.
Lambton College was the Silver recipient of the Applied Research and Innovation Excellence Award recognizing institutional commitment and the impact of the College’s research activity on small and medium-sized enterprises, the local community, the province, and students enrolled in Lambton College programs.
This is the sixth award in five years by which Lambton College has been recognized for Research & Innovation by CICan. The department was previously awarded Gold in 2019 and 2016, Silver in 2017, and Bronze in 2018. Lambton Vice President, Research & Innovation, Mehdi Sheikhzadeh was also presented with a Bronze Award for Leadership Excellence in 2017.
“I am extremely proud of Lambton College’s accomplishments in Research. To continue to be recognized nationally for our strength in this area emphasizes the quality of the work being done closely with our partners on real-world research projects, while providing our partners the opportunity to develop and/or improve their technologies, processes, and products. We could not be more thrilled to continue to support our students, our partners, and our community,” said Judith Morris, President & CEO, Lambton College, following the announcement.
Throughout the pandemic, Lambton College has continued to demonstrate leadership in research through many collaborative projects focused on the fight against COVID-19. These projects include, but are not limited to, providing much-needed hand sanitizer to frontline workers in the Sarnia-Lambton area, conducting research to improve COVID-19 testing capabilities, development of action plans for long-term care homes, and developing and designing 3D printed parts needed for hospital equipment.
The CICan Awards of Excellence celebrate the extraordinary contribution of individuals and highlight the role of essential institutions for Canada’s social, cultural and economic development. The awards are distributed in partnership with TD Insurance, the exclusive sponsor of CICan’s Awards of Excellence.
Since recipients could not be recognized in person this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the association created an online showcase to share and celebrate the achievements of this year’s winners. The full list of awards recipients is available at awards.collegesinstitutes.ca.
“As Canadians are mobilizing to face a crisis unlike anything we’ve seen in generations, it is perhaps more important than ever to celebrate excellence in leadership, innovation and education,” said CICan president and CEO, Denise Amyot. “Even though we can’t celebrate together this year, I want to offer my heartfelt congratulations to all recipients. All of them show us, in their way, the talent and resourcefulness available at Canadian colleges and institutes. Their achievements are a source of inspiration for us all.”
