Media Release: Sting Focus On Culture. Starts With Identifying Core Values & Supporting The Process

SARNIA, ON- The postponement of the 2020-21 Ontario Hockey League season has allowed for a time of reflection for the Sarnia Sting organization. Time in which the Hockey Club has collectively taken to identify and establish the core values that will lay the foundation towards maintaining a culture that supports excellence on and off the ice.

Over the past several months awaiting the return of OHL Hockey, the Sarnia Sting have elected to view this period as an opportunity to evaluate their operations. Working together on creating a road map that will support the process of success on and off the ice.

“I can’t say enough about the passionate people in this organization. This was an incredible, internal process that involved collaborative discussion with all departments and lead to identifying our goals and laying the road map for how we will achieve them” comments Sting GM Dylan Seca. Through this initiative the Hockey Club is excited to release its organizational mission and core values. The framework to how decisions will be made throughout the entire organization moving forward.

MISSION

The relentless pursuit of pride among the Sarnia Sting community through unquestionable WORK ETHIC, INTEGRITY and LEADERSHIP

CORE VALUES

Character No person in the Sarnia Sting organization is too big to do the small things. Character begins with humility and ends with integrity, doing what is best for the group.

Pride Representing ourselves, our teammates, and our city with the highest class. Through our actions we honour those who have worn the Sting crest before and set expectations to those who will wear it in the future.

Inclusion We respect everyone's background, gender, race, religion, or belief. Our environment is safe and designed to provide maximum opportunity for growth.

The Process Fall in love with the process and the results will come.

Excellence We set the expectation of excellence for ourselves and each other. Excellence is in every decision we make on the ice, in the office, in the classroom and in the community. All with the objective towards winning a Memorial Cup Championship.

Fun Enjoy every moment of the journey with the gratitude and understanding of the opportunity to play and work in the Ontario Hockey League.

Seca adds, “This is simply one step in the entire process. Getting this ideology down holds us accountable to what we value, as well as accountable to each other. Each decision we make should consider these values. It is crucial we follow this with actions that support these words, otherwise they are just words. Our focus is on creating the best possible environment for success, and the results will follow.”

To further support this initiative the Sarnia Sting are pleased to announce key members of their support staff for the 2020-21 season. All five individuals are key contributors and excellent resources for our players and staff.

The Club identifies that part of supporting the process means putting the right people in place to do so. It is crucial that all players and staff know that along with our coaching staff and senior management, they have the resources available to them to reach out when needed.

The Sting will continue to revisit their mission and values while putting various initiatives into action that further support this conversation.
