Motorcyclist Fails to Stop for Police

A 54-year-old male from Sarnia has been arrested and charged as a result of a recent police pursuit.

On July 2nd, 2020, at approximately 10:30 am, an officer assigned to Sarnia Police COPPS Unit located a motorcycle parked at a motel in the 1700 block of London Line with an expired validation tag and unconfirmed insurance. Minutes later, this motorcycle was observed exiting the motel parking lot and, as the officer attempted to conduct a vehicle stop, the motorcycle continued west on London Line towards the southbound ramp at Modeland Road.

With lights and sirens activated, the officer followed the motorcycle as it continued southbound while cutting off another vehicle as it merged onto Modeland Road and nearly caused a collision. The motorcycle then accelerated to a very high rate of speed, estimated by the officer to be in excess of 140km/h. Due to public safety, the officer discontinued the pursuit as he observed the motorcycle continue southbound on Modeland Road at an extremely high rate of speed while blowing through a red light at Wellington Street.

The officer subsequently conducted a follow-up investigation into this matter, and through video surveillance, he was able to confirm the identity of the motorcycle driver.

On the afternoon of July 6th, 2020 the accused Djamel Joel Kabouche was arrested and charged with Flight from Police and Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance. He was later released on an Appearance Notice.
