Sarnia Police Officer Charged by OPP

On March 31st 2023, the Lambton County OPP notified the Sarnia Police Service of an off duty incident involving a Sarnia Police Officer operating a personal motor vehicle.  As a result of this investigation, the OPP has laid criminal charges against Sarnia Constable Sean Van Vlymen.

“The Sarnia Police Service is committed to swiftly addressing any complaints and concerns within our lawfully available legal frameworks.  It is deeply concerning when any police officers are involved in incidents that can negatively impact the public trust.  This concern is shared by the many members of the Sarnia Police, who continue to professionally serve the public every hour of every day, often in difficult and challenging circumstances.” – Sarnia Police Chief Derek Davis.

Pursuant to the Police Services Act (PSA) Chief Davis has directed that an internal investigation be initiated into these matters.  Cst. Van Vlymen is currently assigned to non-operational duties.
