Sarnia Transit & COVID-19 Update – June 5

The Sarnia Primary Control Group (SPCG) met via teleconference on June 5, 2020, at 9:15 a.m. regarding developments related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sarnia Transit continues to operate for essential trips only, within a modified Sunday service, and capacity is limited. Fares will be reinstated effective June 15th at a new rate of $1.50, half the normal rate. For the safety of drivers and passengers, traditional transfers will not be issued due to pandemic measures.
For regular transit users, purchasing a monthly pass or sheets of tickets is still the most economical method. Monthly passes for June have been pro-rated to $40.00, and seniors passes have been pro-rated to $32.00. Cost of a sheet of 20 tickets has been reduced to $30. A pass for use in July and August, called a Summer Savings pass, is available for $114, which works out to $57 per month.
Tickets and passes are available on the City website or by phone at 519-332-0330 Ext 3131 and at ticket and pass outlets. For more information visit: https://www.sarnia.ca/transit-updates/
The Sarnia Police Service and Sarnia By-Law want to ensure that the "Cove,” located beyond the west end of Canatara Beach, remains a safe place for citizens of Sarnia to enjoy. There will be zero tolerance regarding alcohol, excessive noise, indecent acts, or any other violations. Throughout the summer, this area will be patrolled to ensure it remains safe and enjoyable for use.
As a result of the City’s COVID-19 Cost Mitigation Strategy student and seasonal staff hiring is suspended. As a result, the City’s ability to reopen and maintain certain indoor and outdoor sports facilities have been impacted.
Currently the City of Sarnia has cancelled spring and summer programs until at least July 3rd, 2020. This includes arena and facility bookings, waterfront programming, summer concerts, festivals and events outlined in the Summer Activity Guide such as summer camps, recreation programs and swimming lessons.
Ensuring facilities and amenities are safe for citizens, while respecting provincial orders and public health guidelines is a shared responsibility. We all have a role to play in slowing the spread of COVID-19.
As of 9:15 a.m. on June 5 the SPCG can report that:
