Seventh Annual Petrolia Pizzafest to Proceed - Virtually

Petrolia – For the past six years, Petrolia has hosted Pizzafest on the first Saturday in June as a way to promote visitors to our downtown, to celebrate our array of pizzerias, promote local artists and to contribute funds to the Petrolia Community Fund, the Lambton-Central Petrolia Optimist Club, The Petrolia Lions Club, Petrolia Scouting and The Rotary Club of Petrolia.
The event usually takes place in Victoria Park in the middle of Petrolia’s busy downtown. Over the course of the day patrons have the chance to sample pizza by the slice, set up a lawn chair to enjoy the music and watch as their children enjoy the bouncy castles and face painting.
As is the case with many things for 2020, Petrolia’s seventh annual Pizzafest will look different this year. Organizers are proceeding with a virtual event that will still have all the same pizza-related fun, but from the comfort of your home.
Dave Menzies, Director of Facilities and Community Services said, “…During a time that we can’t all be together and break our slice sales record, we felt that it was important to provide something fun for residents to look forward to, and to keep some sense of normalcy to Petrolia’s way of life. A way to be together, even when we’re apart.”
One thing remains unchanged, the event expenses will be completely covered by the support of our sponsors – Bluewater Power Corporation, Barb and Rick Charlebois, Bourque Renovations, Brooketel, and Henry Heyink Construction.
Instead of pizza slice sales, each of the participating pizzerias will offer a Pizzafest Special on Friday, June 5 and Saturday, June 6, 2020 during their regular hours. Each participating restaurant will be announcing their specials soon, and that information will be available on the “Virtual Petrolia Pizzafest 2020” Facebook event.
This year our participating pizzerias include: Bud’s Pizza, Godfathers Pizza, Helen’s Hideaway Family Restaurant, Johnny G’s Premium Pizza Plus, Petrolia Pizza and Subs and Wise Guys Inc.
As for the entertainment part of the event, the Facebook event will have performances by some of our favourite local artists throughout the weekend. The schedule will be announced soon, and the lineup of artists will be announced at that time. For those without Facebook, we will also have the entertainment available on YouTube.
Laurissa Ellsworth, Director of Marketing, Arts and Communications said, “This is one of the ways that we are working to promote our downtown and to remind our residents and people in the Petrolia area that our downtown is as open for business as we are able to be. More promotions for our downtown are in the works.”
