The Sarnia Police Service responded to 97 calls for service over Canada Day. Some of these calls included:

8 – Domestic/Family Disputes

9 – Liquor Related Offences

0 – Mischief

0 – Motor Vehicle Collisions

3 – Noise Complaints

8 – Person Welfare Checks

1 – Theft

1 – Traffic Complaints

14 – Traffic Stops

5 – Unwanted Persons

In addition, 10 Provincial Offence Notices (Tickets) were issued over the weekend. These tickets ranged from open liquor and underage drinking to traffic violations and trespassing offences. Officers were kept very busy responding to Canatara Beach and especially Mike Weir Beach for large gatherings and youth parties. In the majority of these cases, individuals were spoken to regarding social distancing guidelines and several teenagers were cautioned for possession of alcohol under the age of 19. Officers disposed a significant amount of seized alcohol on the scene while only a minor number of tickets were issued accordingly.

Police have also noticed a significant decrease in the call volume at The Cove Beach at the west end of Canatara Park since taking a targeted enforcement approach at this location. This zero-tolerance strategy will also be deployed at Mike Weir Beach in the near future.
