Sting Complete Under 18 Priority Selection, Adding Three Prospects

Sarnia, ON. – The Sarnia Sting Hockey Club completed the 2021 Ontario Hockey League Under 18 Priority Selection on Wednesday afternoon, adding three 2004 born prospects.

Established in 2017, the OHL U18 Priority Selection is a two-round process save and except for the allowance for an additional selection by a team in the third round if they have chosen a goaltender with one of their first two selections. Players eligible to be selected are U18 AAA players not currently on a CHL member team protected list who were registered within the OHF, HNO or HEO during the 2020-21 playing season.
With the first-round pick (9th overall) General Manager Dylan Seca selected Right Defenceman Brock Reinhart of the Guelph Gryphons U18 AAA.. Seca then followed up this pick with Goaltender Nicholas Surzycia, a Toronto, ON native of the Toronto Titans U18. With the final pick in the draft, the club added a local talent from Mooretown, ON in Owen MacDonald. A left shooting Defenceman from the Lambton Jr. Sting AAA program. “We are pleased to welcome Brock, Nicholas and Owen to the Sarnia Sting family.” Dylan Seca comments following the draft. “All three are talented players that deserve this recognition today and we look forward to seeing their continued development.” Adds the Sting GM.
In total the Sting have added 19 new names to the prospect board between the 2021 OHL U16 & U 18 Priority Selection. The Sting will complete the CHL Import draft on Wednesday, June 30th before preparing for Training Camp in early September.
