Stolen Plates Lead to Drug Trafficking


On March 30, 2020, at approximately 10:30 PM, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Trudeau Drive regarding suspicious activity. Information received by the officers was that a vehicle had pulled into the parking lot of the townhouse complex and the occupants of the suspicious vehicle were observed removing the rear plate of a vehicle belonging to a resident in the complex. The suspect vehicle then left the area but fortunately witnesses were able to gather the suspect vehicle’s plate number.

At approximately 2:50 AM, on March 31, 2020, officers conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle matching the same plate number of the suspect vehicle. The traffic stop took place in the area of Murphy Road and Exmouth Street. The two occupants of the motor vehicle were arrested for the theft of the license plate.

As the investigation continued it was determined that the driver of the motor vehicle was a disqualified driver. A search of the suspects and the vehicle located the following items:

  1. 123 grams of crystal methamphetamine with a street value of $11,000

  2. Four grams of crack cocaine with a street value of $400

  3. 20 suspected opiate pills with a street value of $160

  4. $2600 in Canadian Currency

Kyle Adam Thompson, 30 years of age, of Sarnia, faces one count of possession of property obtained by crime, three counts of possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited under the Criminal Code of Canada, two counts of failing to comply with a release order, and three counts of breach of probation.

The second person charged is a Vincent Craig Burr, 32 years of age, of Sarnia. Burr faces one count of possession of property obtained by crime and three counts of possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Thompson has been remanded into custody while Burr has since been released on bail.
